geobuddiesIn this project, an application has been developed that provides user-centered geomatic information and services, anywhere anytime, for pilgrims in the “Camino de Santiago”. The application supports mobile, dynamic and context-aware access and interaction with a range of geographical and application-specific resources and services, with the support of the databases provided by Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN).

The application is built on a platform (GeoBuddies) that includes implementations of algorithms for the following purposes:

  • Ontology-based information integration, which is used to harmonise the multilingual and heterogeneous geographical databases provided by IGN.
  • Social tagging of resources and services, which provides the necessary information to derive user communities.
  • Collaborative filtering, which provides recommendations based on user communities.
  • Service composition and execution, which is used for the dynamic creation and use of added-value services based on the user’s context.
  • Data transfer and reliability in mobile environments, which ensures that the relevant data is always available to services and mobile devices.

A few videos about the application:

This project has been carried out by the Ontology Engineering Group (OEG) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Grupo de Sistemas Intelixentes (GSI) of the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela.

The Instituto Geográfico Nacional (National Geographic Institute of Spain) has also participated as a collaborator.
