Mariano Rico was Postdoctoral researcher at the Artificial Intelligence Department of the Computer Science Faculty of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and belonged to the Ontology Engineering Group of this faculty. Currently his entailment with this group is as Collaborator.

Previously he worked as post-doc researcher at Escuela Politécnica Superior of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), where he had a Teaching Assistant position from 2003 to 2009. In 2010 he was Associate Teacher at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Telematics Engineering Department). He holds a MSc (Physics, 1992), a Master degree (DEA) in Computer Science and Telecommunication (2004) and a PhD in Computer Science and Telecommunication (2009), all of them from UAM. He is accredited as Contratado Doctor since 2010 by the spanish quality agency ACAP.

His research interests are focused on Semantic Web, Virtual Worlds, Human-Computer Interaction and Web Technologies. From 1992 to 2003 he worked on R&D centres of private companies as software engineer and project manager in New Technologies areas. He had two predoctoral stays at Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI, Galway) in 2004 and 2005, where he also was Erasmus Teacher at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG).
